You Don’t Even Have a Rabbit is a collection of 30 funny, sex-positive pieces of speculative fiction with a feminist sensibility. These stories explore how humans navigate gender, sexuality, friendship, and their own happiness in potential earth futures.

Six stories focus on Mairzy and Snith, a couple who meet in Remedial Kissing class, have sexcapades, and end up saving the world. Three imagine origins for playground folklore such as the hand-clapping rhyme Miss Mary Mack, the jump rope rhyme Cinderella Dressed in Yella, and the counting out rhyme My Mother and Your Mother. In others, a denizen of a jellyfish-shaped planet reaches out to Earth; two sprites who are jerks join forces; a group of girls learn maybe a little too much about Yggdrasil, the World Tree; a man tries to find happiness in a patriarchal, heteronormative society where all men are provided with four wives whether they like it or not; two girls attempt to play a trick on an old woman and are tricked in turn; a grown-up Fern provides backstory for Charlotte’s Web; a teenage boy yearns for power at a swords-and-sorcery amusement park; hormonal controls at a middle school break down and two students fumble their way toward social upheaval; a woman pretends to be a time-traveler to get rid of a mansplaining boyfriend; and a luxury dentist invents a device to wreak havoc on the rich.

Bite-size literary palate-cleansers between the stories encourage readers to keep turning the pages.

“Jessy Randall has a poet’s imagination and a storyteller’s wickedness.”—Charlie Jane Anders
